Sam

My name is Sam Sherwin and I am 5 years old. I live near Peterborough with my Mum and Dad and my younger brother, Ned. I have cerebral palsy which affects both my legs and my arms to varying degrees, meaning that I find it difficult to move myself around and I will spend quite a lot of my life in a powered wheelchair. This does not stop me trying to have a go at things if I can persuade someone to help me. I really like tennis and cricket (well, my versions of them), skittles and swimming, going on the trampoline and pony riding, drawing, reading, playing board games and golf on the Wii. I also enjoy watching sport - cricket is my favourite – I can name every member of the England side and am looking forward to going to see England play in the summer.

I go to my local primary school which I like a lot, though I wish I could do all the same the things as my class mates. I know what I want to do, but can you imagine how annoying it is when you want your hand or leg to do something and it does something completely different or nothing at all? I have to concentrate really hard to do things that others find really easy and it often takes me a long time to do them – but I am proud of myself when I manage to do something.

People say my laugh is infectious and I have some funny things to say. However, it can take me time to say those things. I hope that others will take time to get to know people like me. I have an annoying body but a wicked mind!
