the Ready Willing and Mobile Competition 2007

details of a great competition ...

fantastic prizes to be won...

Many children can shy away from disability through a lack of understanding ...

The Mobility Roadshow, the leading mobility lifestyle event, celebrates National Young Disabled Person's Day on 19th July 2007 and offers you and your pupils a unique opportunity to win a fantastic range of prizes.

The Mobility Roadshow's Ready, Willing and Mobile competition encourages children to consider disability, accessibility and inclusivity from a young age. We are looking for bright ideas from all young people - both disabled and able bodied - aged 7 to 16 years: ideas that will help children with disabilities on the move - at home, at school, at play.

Think of products or services that could help disabled children integrate into everyday life - previous entries have included funky lifestyle wheelchairs, accessible play equipment, accessories, shopping aids and tools. It could be a concept for a brand-new product or service that everyone can use, both disabled and able-bodied people, or an idea for developing an existing item or facility - there are endless possibilities!

The competition is divided into two age categories - 7-11 and 12-16, with a winner and runner-up in each age category. The two winners will be invited to a VIP day at the Mobility Roadshow on Thursday 19th July - National Young Disabled Persons' Day - where the outright competition winner will be announced.

Zoe Collins aged 10 from Perry Hall Primary School, Orpington, Kent won the 2006 competition with her bright idea for "Arch Pal", a special wheelchair for young budding archaeologists. It can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button to allow easy access on archaeological digs, has easily accessible tools and equipment, such as a sieve and a selection of storage areas for "finds". "I was inspired by our school assembly about disabilities and the competition", said Zoe "because it would not be fair if someone else who loved archaeology as much as I do could not take part because of a disability, so I had the idea of the Arch Pal."

Zoe will be on next year's judging panel along with two of our case studies, Harri and Jack. See the judges pages for details of who else will join them.
