12th April 2016

Visit Shield Total Insurance at The Mobility Roadshow, Silverstone Circuit, 26th- 28th May, to find out further details.

Having listened to the needs of its customers, Shield Total Insurance, who insure everything from allotments to cars, homes and caravans, has launched policies for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. These cover the cost to repair or replace them, plus any damage caused while using them, to help keep users mobile and fully insured at all times, whether at home or away.

Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are an essential item for their owners that should be properly insured at all times - in the UK or if on holiday abroad – and are not necessarily fully covered by your existing domestic policy.

  • Shield Total Insurance, who insure everything from allotments to cars, homes and caravans, has launched new policies for mobility scooters and wheelchairs, with premiums from £22.42 a year*

  • Three classes of cover: manual wheelchairs, powered chairs and mobility scooters

  • New for old cover for units up to three years old

  • Policies also cover accidental damage, theft and loss of personal effects, breakdown of the unit, personal accident and injury, plus costs of hospitalisation or for getting you home

  • Cover for up to 180 days European and 60 days worldwide also available

  • Enhanced cover includes a manual wheelchair in addition to the unit insured, and if you’re injured, the costs to adapt it to enable you to use it, or replace it

Shield mobility policies covering manual wheelchairs, powered chairs and mobility scooters, with annual premiums starting from £22.42 a year*. These include new for old cover for mobility units up to three years old, theft of the unit and personal effects, repairs following an unforeseen mechanical or electrical breakdown, and if this means you can’t use your mobility device, it will even cover travel expenses to get you home.

All policies have a minimum of £2.5m of liability cover for accidental damage, death or bodily injury to others while using your mobility device. If any owners want to travel outside the UK, there is up to 180 days European and up to 60 days worldwide cover also available for their mobility devices.

Shield also offers the option of ‘enhanced cover’ which includes cover for a manual wheelchair, in addition to the mobility device already insured, and the cost of adaptations to your mobility chair if you’re injured whilst using it.

Stuart Craig, Marketing Manager, Shield Total Insurance commented: “Please don’t assume your mobility scooter or wheelchair, or any damage, third party liability or breakdown is covered by your home insurance. That’s why, having listened to its customers, Shield has developed these new mobility insurance policies, as it knows how much people rely on their mobility devices, and the huge potential impact it has, for whatever reason, if they suddenly don’t have them.”
