Did you know?
Wheelchair basketball is a great activity for a diverse age group, from juniors to adults. It offers a great physical workout in a safe and welcoming social setting: it’s a great sport for life!
Initially a rehabilitation and recreational activity for patients with spinal cord injuries in the 1940s, wheelchair basketball quickly developed into a competitive sport with over 100 teams playing today across the UK.
Wheelchair basketball embraces a wide range of disabilities including those with a lower limb physical impairment, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis, to name just a few. You don’t need to be a wheelchair user to get involved in wheelchair basketball: non-disabled individuals are welcome to play and compete within the UK’s clubs and leagues – making it a great sport to play alongside family and friends.
British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) is the national governing body for wheelchair basketball within the UK. BWB aims to create, underpin and deliver quality opportunities for players at all levels, in order to obtain the best possible performances for teams, clubs, and each and every member.
Let’s Play! can provide helpful information about local accessible sports clubs and are organizing four sporting activities at The Mobility Roadshow. Visitors can participate in Boccia and Disability Tennis on 26th May and Wheelchair Basketball and Powerchair Football on 27th and 28th May.
