Roadshow a hit with younger visitors!
The Mobility Roadshow Scotland was delighted to welcome a group of young students from Carmondean Primary School, West Lothian, on the opening day. The pupils were particularly interested in the sport and leisure activities as part of a social inclusion project.
Carmondean Primary School
Further to a highly successful Social Inclusion project carried out last session with Primary 6 & Primary 3 pupils, we built upon the excellent experiences by attending the Mobility Road Show. We took 44 Primary 7 pupils along with 4 pupils with a variety of disabilities, from across the school. We saw this as an opportunity to extend pupil understanding and introduce them to the array of sports and opportunities available for disabled people. All those who attended, including the adults, were impressed with the range of opportunities available. The children particularly enjoyed being able to participate in the full range of activities and they commented on how challenging these were. As a result of attending this event, we have built up a network of people who we hope will help us deliver our next block of work. We would like to thank the organisers for a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience.
Mobility Roadshow - Driving Mobility Forward in Scotland
20 September 2010 - The Mobility Roadshow Scotland opened its doors on Friday 17th September with around 100 exhibitors offering a wealth of information and advice, as well as classic mobility solutions for visitors to test drive, try out and compare.
Just back from a challenging 500 miles in seven days ride from Glasgow to Dublin with Spinal Injuries Scotland, Aberdeen-based Kenny Herriot officially opened the show. Paralysed from the waist down after a motorcycle accident in 2000, Kenny is one of the world’s leading wheelchair athletes, having broken the British Record for the marathon in 2005 amongst other feats. Kenny took part in some of the sports and Cyclefest activities available at the show, hoping to inspire others to try new activities.

Cyclefest at the Mobility Roadshow Scotland
If you have any kind of mobility difficulty it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t take a cycle ride, either solo or with family and friends. Visitors to the Mobility Roadshow Scotland on 17th and 18th September at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston can take part in Cyclefest – a focus on all ability cycling options from tiny trikes to companion, passenger, tandem, hand and wheelchair cycling, with specialist advice and assessment available to assist visitor choice.
Launched at the Peterborough Mobility Roadshow in July, Cyclefest was an instant success, with visitors making the journey to the show specifically for the opportunity to try out a range of options. “We are absolutely amazed at the range and advice available,” said visitor Joanne Connelly, visiting with disabled son James (11) who was elated to be trying out a handcycle - the first time he had been able to ride a bike.
