The 30th Anniversary of the Mobility Roadshow sees the return of the Design Zone with the ever popular Cool Wall and plenty of opportunities for visitors to get involved in influencing the product designs of the future.
This year the Design Zone will feature a new 'Spotlight on Design' area, showcasing product ideas, concepts and new inventions; from crutches with wheels to ideas for wheelchair snow shovels!
There will also be a chance to catch up with the progress of ideas featured in last year's Design Zone. Come and find out how your input has helped to shape and direct tomorrows innovative products.
Here are some of the highlights of the 'Spotlight on Design'...
RollerMate Walker
RollerMate Walker is the crutch on wheels, designed to transfer the pressure of using crutches evenly and gently through the upper body, allowing the user to walk with the crutch gliding beside them. RollerMate is just one of the two new products from Designed 2 Enable http://www.designed2enable.co.uk/rollermate-walker/ , who were recently featured in Disability Now and national press as champions of inclusive design.
Jeeves
Jeeves is a new design of wheelchair cup holder, large enough for a mug of tea with a handy slot for holding a wine glass. Jeeves has been designed by Such and Such Design in response to requests from visitors to last year's Mobility Roadshow. The Such and Such team will be on hand in the Design Zone for demonstrations and are eager to hear your feedback on their latest innovations.
Dayclock
The Dayclock is a great example of user led design at its best. Designed by the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering (BIME) in 2012, the Dayclock reminds those with memory loss or dementia of the the time and day in the simple, intuitive format of a digital photo frame. Such was the popularity of the product on its launch that BIME were unable to keep up with demand and the Dayclock was successfully commercialised through a partnership with DF Sales Ltd in Bath. The product won a South West innovation award and was shortlisted for the finals of the National Dementia awards.
