12th August 2011 - Having performed admirably on the competitive race circuit, 19 year old Nicolas Hamilton now intends to inspire other young people with a disability to get behind the wheel - initially on the road, but who knows what the future could hold.
Nicolas will be the guest of honour, welcoming aspirational young people and learner drivers with disabilities to Get Going - Live!, an action-packed one-day event for those looking to start driving and plan for their first car.
This free event takes place tomorrow, Saturday 13th August at the Launch Pad, Donington Park from 10 am – 5 pm. Those taking part can test drive latest model vehicles from major manufacturers on the historic Heritage Loop Circuit and discuss with experts all there is to know about independent motoring.
Nicolas, who has cerebral palsy, recently made his motor racing debut, and is an Ambassador for Disabled Motoring UK. The charity is co-hosting this event with another national charity, Mobility Choice, organisers of the annual Mobility Roadshow.
You must be aged 14 to test drive one of the adapted vehicles. Prospective learners under the age of 14 are welcome to practice transferring, familiarise themselves with the controls, and may also travel as a passenger with an instructor. All test drivers will be accompanied in the vehicle by an instructor. A parent or guardian will need to countersign the test drive disclaimer for those under 16.
As well as test driving, visitors to the event can try accessible climbing, all-ability cycling, skid car, go-karts and 4x4, and meet experts in adapted driving. Find out more at www.getgoingnow.org
