The competition was launched in 2005 and has grown year on year, attracting entries from schools, and now clubs and associations too, from all over the UK.
Here is a brief summary of past Ready Willing & Mobile Competition winners .....
2010 Holly Moggridge
14 year old Holly Moggridge, a student at Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School in Upminster was announced the outright winner of the competition last year. Her winning entry was an IPod hearing aid device designed to eliminate the embarrassment felt by many deaf or partially deaf children who have to wear a traditional hearing aid. Holly’s inspiration came from talks with children and teenagers who use hearing aids and who said they felt different from everyone else because the aids were easily noticed and looked uncool due to their large size. Holly is pictured here collecting her prize from actor David Proud, who is one of this year's Judges.
11 year old twins Caitlin and Olivia Brough from Marden Bridge Middle School in Whitley Bay won in 2009 with their joint entry, Tender Loving Bear, designed with a host of inbuilt features to entertain, amuse and create a calm friendly atmosphere that will encourage young vulnerable or disabled children to talk openly by sharing their feelings with the teddy. The twins received their award from Olympic swimming champion and presenter Sharron Davies.
13 year old Samantha Preston from Derby High School was the 2008 outright winner with her idea, The Sixth Sense, a small and discreet clip-on sensor designed to improve safety and confidence for partially sighted people. Samantha is pictured here with TV presenter and athlete Ade Adepitan at the awards ceremony.
Shaan, from Matley Primary School Peterborough, designed a new-style cane with a range of helpful features for visually impaired people, including voice-activated communication, weather barometer, satellite navigation, CD player, drinks holder, panic button, light and umbrella. A team of girls from Cheltenham Ladies' College was runner-up with their concept for a mobile sensory unit.
Zoe, from Perry Hall Primary School, Orpington, won in 2006 with her take on an enhanced wheelchair for budding young archaeologists. Zoe is now a judge for the competition, as is 2006 runner-up Jack Pegram, pictured here with Zoe.
11 year old Kayleigh Coxhead from Peterborough won the inaugural Ready Willing & Mobile competition with her concept for a luxury lifestyle wheelchair that provides everything within easy reach - including accessible drink holder, waterproof CD player, extra-grip tyres, luggage locker that also holds a portable ramp for easy access and lots more - designed for land and in water.
