Sport for All at the Roadshow

Lothian Disability Sport is a registered charity, which promotes, co-ordinates and develops a wide range of sports and recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities throughout Lothian.   As a branch of Scottish Disability Sport, our vision is to lead the development of sport, in the area, for people with a physical, sensory or learning disability, in partnership with key local agencies.  A range of opportunities are available in a variety of sports including football, athletics, archery, badminton, swimming, basketball, wheelchair basketball, horse riding, judo, carpet bowls, indoor bowls, boccia, power lifting and multi-sports.

As an organisation we now have a well-established programme of competitive events and are delighted to see an increase in the number of athletes competing at national level.  We will continue to provide as much support as we can to encourage even greater numbers to try and attain this level, particularly with the prospect of the London Paralympics in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

All about Digital .....

The Digital Switchover Help Scheme is run by the BBC, under an agreement with the Government. We help older and disabled people who may find it difficult to switch to digital TV. Over seven million people in the UK will be eligible to receive help.

We have been set up to help people to switch one of their TV sets to digital. If you are eligible for our help, we'll explain digital TV to you clearly and simply. We can install what you need in your home and we'll make sure you're happy with how it all works.

Wheelchair Woodturners branch out at the Roadshow!

Over the two day show Wheelchair Woodturners will have a continuous demonstration of woodturning on a lathe from a wheelchair.  Ike Curran of WW will be turning wooden flowers, spinning tops and other small items on the lathe, which he will be giving away free.

Our intention at this event will be to outreach to all and show that just because you are limited in mobility that does not mean that you are limited in your ability to make fun and useful items (mind, some of Ike's things are not that useful!)  We will have on display and for sale, a big selection of items made within the crafting group involved with our workshop in Wishaw.  All monies raised by selling theses items goes directly to the workshop and annually we raise money for Marie Curie, BLESMA British Limbless Ex Servicemen's Association.
