Driving Mobility Forward

Come & meet Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE at the Mobility Roadshow, making its debut at Kemble Airfield near Swindon on 8th, 9th and 10th June 2006.

Regular Mobility Roadshow visitors will be aware of the wide - and ever-expanding - range of products, services and information to help people with disabilities to get around, not just out and about, but aids for moving about our day to day lives at home, too. This year`s Kemble show promises more choice than ever with a raft of new products making their debut.

If you`ve never attended one of these events, pop the date in your diary now. It`s the largest show of its kind in the world. Nowhere else can you try out such a wide range of adapted vehicles from major motor manufacturers and receive impartial advice on hundreds of mobility aids from around 200 exhibitors.

You`ll be able to test drive - either as a driver or passenger - adapted and specialist vehicles, including drive-from-wheelchair models, from a range of manufacturers including Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes, Nissan, Smart, Saab, Toyota, Vauxhall and VW. Test drives can be pre-booked on the website and there is also a wheelchair and scooter test track.

As well as the latest adapted cars you`ll find motor homes, wheelchairs, scooters, pushchairs, tricycles, hand controls and other adaptations, seating and harness systems, hoists, ramps, lifts, insurance, clothing, exercise equipment - anything and everything that helps people with disabilities to enjoy increased mobility and access. In recent years the show has developed a large hotel, travel and leisure section, as well as children`s products.

New products for 2006 will include Cyclone Mobility`s new Thera Vital active/passive exercise bike for upper and lower body, helping people with disabilities to optimum fitness. From the same company will be the new Lifestand LSC full-power standing wheelchair. Martin Conquest will be showing the Conquest 850, the UK`s first mass-produced performance motorcycle that can be ridden from a wheelchair, of which NABD chairman Rick Hulse says, “the Conquest is the most exciting innovation in the last 10 years for the disabled motorcyclist”.

Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE will visit the show on the opening day - National Young Disabled Person`s Day - to present the prizes to the winners of the Roadshow`s Ready Willing & Mobile competition. Now in its second year, the competition encourages able-bodied or disabled schoolchildren aged 7-14 to think of a bright idea to help young disabled people on the move – at home, at school, at play. There are great prizes on offer, including £1,000 for the winner`s school, plus a bundle of goodies for the winners. Full details and entry pack are on the website at www.mobilityroadshow.co.uk/competition

“The move to Kemble is a great opportunity to take the Roadshow to a new venue,” commented Jacqui Jones, director of projects and events of Mobility Choice, the charity that organises the event. “Our original intention had always been to host the event at different venues to make it more accessible to people in different parts of the country, but the specific requirements of a show of this nature and size has until now prohibited this. After much searching, Kemble Airfield offers a real alternative to Donington Park, without compromising on space or facilities and we are looking forward to this new venue.”

With food court, fully staffed crèche, fun and entertainment for young visitors, it`s a great day out for all the family. Entry, parking and show guide are all free and sign language interpreters and free wheelchair and scooter loans will help you get around.
