| All you have to do is think of products or services that could help disabled children join in more with family and friends doing everyday things that we all enjoy. Previous entries have included funky lifestyle wheelchairs, accessible play and sports equipment, accessories and tools, communication and shopping aids. It could be a concept for a brand-new product or service that everyone can use, but especially good for young disabled people, or an idea for developing an existing item or facility there are endless possibilities! Remember that `disabled` doesn`t always mean a wheelchair user other types of disability affect, for example, hearing, sight, speech or memory, which in turn can impact on a person`s mobility.
Entries should be in the form of a visual interpretation (maximum A3 size, colour or mono, hand-drawn or computer generated), accompanied by a written description, and can be from individuals or groups. See Terms & Conditions and Rules of Entry for full details.
Stuck for ideas? See the Case Study pages to get your creative juices flowing - meet Harri, Jack, Vicky, Laura, Arthur and Nicole, the competition Ambassadors. See their pictures, read their likes and dislikes, learn more about their disabilities, what frustrates and inspires them. Take a look at a selection of Previous Entries to get an idea of what`s been submitted in previous years. And check out the Past Winners of the competition.
Maybe you have a disability yourself that prevents you from doing all that you want to, and have some thoughts already. Or perhaps you know a young disabled person who could give you some ideas of what would help them on the move`.
Shaan Patel aged 10 from Peterborough won the 2007 competition with his innovative concept, the Super Whizz Blind Stick, designed with a range of helpful features for visually impaired people, including voice-activated communication, weather barometer, satellite navigation, CD player, drinks holder, panic button, light and umbrella. Shaan`s inspiration came when watching a programme about disability. I was amazed when I heard that I had won my category, and then the whole competition, said Shaan. I think it is important that we always think of how we can help other children so they can do the things we do.
